Better Rename 9 App Reviews

I have try all the other app of this kind, but this is simply the best. A lot of options, and the ability to reorder the files of a sequence automaticcally by many option including date, names, size. The only one that was able to pick up the correct EXIF date for the images. It is worth all the money expecially if you want rename and organize the photos collection.

Following is my original 5 star rating. But, the app has totally ceased to function since el Capitan and still does not work now, May of 2016. So, after 30+ years, I’ve moved from Windows to Apple. The prospects of Windows 8 plus my last two years experience with iPhones drove me to it. But, my new Macbook Pro won’t show me date taken or a lot of other Exif metadata from my thousands of photos and it does not allow me to easily rename batches of photos. I have filed my photos by "date taken/subject/id#” for ages. What can I do? Thankfully I found Better Rename v.9. It does it all exactly the way I need it, quickly and easily. Okay, if you are an OSx newbie like me, there were a few problems. Nothing worked. Select 500 photos in a folder, set up the app to rename them, and, BAM, I am asked to re-enter my administrator/usesr password for each and every one of the photos! This is Mavericks doing this, not the app. So, I close the app and go to the folder level, unlock it, change the permissions to let everyone read and write and tell it to apply this to “enclosed items”. Doesn’t work. Tried selecting all the photos and changing their permissions ala Windows. Won’t let me. Won’t let me unlock them without entering my password for each one. Finally, I found that, while Mavericks doesn’t tell me its doing it, it was apparently making the changes I selected, silently and secretly, in the background. Once I found that Mavericks may be doing things slowly and without telling me, I realized that Better Rename was doing exactly what it claims to do and doing it well. I have now changed thousands of names with no further problems and have no worries about the thousands left to do. Now, I just have to find the right app to see ALL the Exif metadata and to change or delete it for pics I may want to make public. There seem to be more faked apps in those categories than there are reliable ones. But, after many nights of working with my photos, I find Better Rename to be just great.

I go out of my way to not review things, but this is one of the few times I need to post a review. This tool is incredible. I deal with large numbers of files, mostly images and videos, and this has become my go-to for everyday work. It is unbelievably capable and has every option I could ever want (and more - I still think that I have only scratched the surface of its capabilities). Hands down one of my favorite tools and most used apps.

God this thing is just like Steve Jobs: it reads my mind and does what I want it to do without hassle AND its classically skeuomorphic and beautiful. I love whoever made this. Thank you. Lord Ogilby

I’ve tried multiple different file rename utilities and this has been the one to outlast them all. It has good help, a great way to see the changes before you make them, and the ability to do very complex rename options by using multiple steps and if you’re feeling frisky; you can use regular expressions. It solves the easy as well as the complex renaming tasks. Highly recommended. Make sure to save your multiple step tasks to a preset to make your life even easier.

If you dont know what regular expressions are, youre wasting 90% of your life. This app supports them beautifully!

I was shocked when I saw how cheap this app is. Id pay at least ten dollars for this without blinking. When working with a large batch of files, this app is a must.

Very nice - been wanting a renamer that I could choose files to rename simply by right-clicking on them. Having the ability to add exif info to the file name is great - it seems to be only missing the focal-length, which I would like to have in my file names, so I am hoping that is added.

I like to buy & colloect Movies & TV shows and download them to an External HD so i can watch them on PLEX and renaming the files manually a certain way so the info can display nicely was time consuming. I just bought this app and WOW I am loving it. What use to take me 5-10 min to rename manually now takes me 1-5 seconds to display proper naming using BetterRename app. Thank you developers.

I finally dont have to wish anymore.. Next time i need it, i am finally prepared. Saves Hours, not minutes. Save yourself now.. lol :)

Using finder to rename files is absolutely horrid when you have more than a few items to rename or add/remove text to. This is incredible. Just used it to add text to 1,709 files in just a few minutes! Thanks!

Ive used automator in the past for this type of renaming, but this app is so much easier to use. A real gem.

I started up Better Rename 9 and was presented with an upgrade notice. Once it completed the upgrade, the new version is "Unregistered."

This is a great app. Very flexible, fast, and easy to configure. But why do the App Store versions lag so far behind the versions available on the developers web site?

All the simplicity of the previous versions is gone. Bring that back please.

This is a great tool thats been around a long time; not something I use a lot, but absolutely invaluable utility for the times when I need it. Very powerful, but easy to use.

Ive been using the free demo of this program, as needed, for a number of years. When, once again, I had occasion to rename (standardize) about 200 file names I finally got tired of the 10 file limit of the demo and decided to buy the full version. Ive tried sveral other rename utilities and this one beats them hands down. It is the easiest to use, and has numerous options to do virtually any type of rename process you can think of. From character or word find/replace, at the beginning, middle, or end of a file name, to renumbering files, to adding sequence numbers, to adding text to the beginning, middle, or end of a file name, to adding dates or MP3 tags .... it does it all .... easily. I dont need it very often, but when I DO need it, its a fabulous program that saves me hours of time, tedium, and boredom. Dont leave home without it! (looking at the previous review) Apparantly since his version (8.9) the ability to extract info from MP3 tags has been added.

whenever I put files to be renamed it crashes I tried renaming 200 photos with numbers and it named them all out of order!!! I cant believe I paid $21 to have it only make worse problems I would rather indivually rename my thousands of files
